Probably the most famous works for solo cello are J.S. Bach's 6 Suites for unaccompanied cello--they are masterpieces.
Vivaldi wrote several concertos for cello and orchestra. But for some reason it seems that not too many concertos featuring this instrument were written by famous composers. Haydn wrote several (but only two have survived), Dvorak wrote one, as did Elgar, and Shostakovich wrote two. Both Beethoven and Brahms wrote sonatas for cello and piano.......

Sorry, my friend, Yo Yo Ma has played literally thousands of pieces; he has dozens of recordings, some more famous than others. I love his version of the Bach Suites for unaccompanied cello. But it could be anything, from Tan Dun Symphonies to movie scores to classical pieces. (Yes, most cello pieces probably can be transposed to play on the viola.)

i would say sympony #29 by mozart
Sympony no. 9 by dvorak
and the Brandenburg concerto no.3
