Is that for the house and the land? Or just the house?

Don't forget that over time, the house will go down in value as it gets older and the land value will go up. So if you are paying $1 million for house and land, make sure a good proportion of it is for the land content (ie location, location, location and yep, size does matter).

If it's in California it's not much. When I was there a while back a real estate agent in San Jose was raving about what a good deal you could get for only $450,000. A 1 BR 1Ba and almsot 900 sq ft.
Here, a house like that wouldn't sell at $50,000.

If that's all you can afford, I suggest getting a second job. Maybe you'll need to try one of those new-fangled interest only, reverse equity, give up your firstborn loans for low income first time home buyers..... Don't be a cheapskate. Buy your wife that island she's had her eye on.

Or move to San Antonio and buy three great big houses all for under a million.

my grandparents own the turning stone casino in new york and it makes about 200,000 a day ... we have many houses including a 4.5 million house and i would much rather live in a cheaper house than a more expensive one just because it doesnt have a loud echo about 10 times after you say something. theres only 3 people that live in this house that is about 200k and its enough for me to live in. just spend your money dont make questions about it...

If they're brand new, probably not. There's been a lot of complaints about new houses (like how the garage isn't wide enough or whatever) in my area.
