I think that their rivalry is the greatest in all of sports. I love watching them play against each other. Despite being a Yankee fan I enjoy the baseball season when both teams are neck and neck. Of course I'd rather see the Yankees win the division but that is not nearly as important as the playoffs. If the Red Sox aren't there it is not nearly as enjoyable. Whether you're a BoSox or Yankees fan you can't deny the electricity when both teams play each other. Anything less than a knock down drag out match up is disappointing. I know there are plenty of baseball fans who can't stand either team and would never be interested watching Yankees vs. BoSox games but most baseball fans can still appreciate the competitive spirit of both teams and how much they elevate their game when they play against each other. I love the fact that fans on both sides are so passionate and loyal to the point of insanity; I wouldn't want it any other way. The competition maybe on the field but the heart of the rivalry is in the stands. The fans are the driving factor that motivate the players on both teams. Players want to win for their fans and they want to shut up the opposing fans. I think most fans of both teams put the rivalry ahead winning a world championship and that is saying something. I dislike the fact that a lot of fans (on both sides) go too far and get too personal to the point of hatred they feel toward the the opposing team's players and fans meanwhile Big Papi and Manny are laughing it up hanging out with Jeter, A-Rod and Damon before the game. If the players could acknowledge it is a game and respect each other as people so should the fans.

What rivalry? When one team (the Yankees) win 95% of the time over the other team (the Red Sox), there is no rivalry! It's a joke! The Red Sox are just Yankee wannabees!!!

I have a hard time calling it a "rivalry" with the Yankees and the Red Sox. Usually a rivalry game includes some question as to who is going to win the important games. The way I see it, Boston has one once in about 80 years. I know of no player that the Yankee people refer to in the same vein that Boston fans call "Bucky freakin Dent" or "Aaron freakin Boone". I look at Boston as more of a wannabe than a real rival because the Yankees dominate

I think that the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry is one of the oldest as well as the most bitter rivalry in sports. It has lasted for over 90 years. Since I am a Yankee fan living in New York, I will always detest the Red Sox as well as their fans. Since their shocking win in 2004, the rivalry has become even more intense. The fans would show hatred to each other and so would the players of both teams. The Red Sox fans must be delusional if they think they are even with us. It is still 26-6 in favor of the Yankees so if the Red Sox want to be even with us, they have a lot of catching up to do. I will always be a die-hard Yankees fan as well as a Red Sox hater. I hate their players and their fans. They say that we are rude but so are they. I hate their uniforms as well. The Yankees will win the division this year and the Red Sox will once again at least finish second to us yet again, and that is assuming the Blue Jays don't play better than them. GO YANKEES!!!!!!

It's the best rivalry in sports. It's great because of how close the 2 towns are to each other (there is tremendous overlap of fans in CT, RI), the history, and some of the recent games between them. I was at Game 7, in 2003 (Aaron Boone), and the place was electric. I was also at game 7, 2004 (Johnny Damon acted like Babe Ruth), and the place was electric. Nothing beats a Yankees-Sox game. For 3 hours, nothing else in the world matters, and you get to watch 18 guys play for blood (Derek Jeter in the stands...I was there too). There is always drama, and usually the fan at Yankee Stadium are 50-50. As for the Giants-Dodgers, west coast fans are terrible. Going to a game for them is like going to a movie, or a play. They don't care...it's not in their blood. I've been to a Dodgers game....they leave in the 6th or 7th inning to "beat the traffic" in a close game. Awful fans. In the Northeast, baseball is a blood sport, and the Yankees-Sox go toe to toe every year, even in the off-season.
GO YANKEES!

It is what it is. Intense, passionate and good for the sport. What other two teams in any sport that you know of inspire such a heated rivalry between no only the teams but the fans as well.
