You didn't specify which war, so I tried to pick classics. Of course, most of them are about WWII. However, Glory was a brilliant treatment of the hidden existence of black platoons in the Civil War. I don't even like George C. Scott, but Patton was incredibly well-acted.

Carve Her Name With Pride. Cockleshell Heroes, All Quiet On The Western Front (either version) get the book, it's the best book ever written about war.

Mahabharat. Awsome Epic-Drama.
Or something you were most probs looking for is in the west. In which case my personal choice-can't remember the name or any actors but it was about an army in an African country.
I guess this doesn't help does it so I'll nominate The Godfather. Not directly about war but the feuds in it amount to some kind of war I guess.
