The world and people have a lot of diversity; the internet has brought us more together but we still don't understand or appreciate each other yet. Also large corporations and governments have an interest in certain areas of the world and cause conflict. We cannot get rid of war until tolerance rules the day, and we endeavor for true understanding, and currently there are few things that reward that activity.

Peace is difficult because that would suggest that everyone, every country, culture, ethnicity, and religion would have to agree to compromise on every single issue out there that brings about war.
Religion, Oil, Political Governments, are just a few reasons why we have war. Is War necessarly evil? Would it have been better if the Civil War never took place, and the Union should have let the Southern States leave and create their own Union? Would that peaceful resolution have created the economically strong nation that U.S. would eventually become?
Not to mention World War I and World War II. Would it have been a more peaceful world if we shrugged off Hitler's attempts at genocide?
Did the colonials not have the right to declare their independence and fight Britain for those rights? Did the Native Americans not have rights to fight the colonials for their land?
War these days is a delicate matter, because now the media has the ability to broadcast the deaths, the mayhem, the destruction to every television screen across the world. War is messier, scarier, and more terrorfying then ever before. Because you can see it, daily.
I'm not saying that the current war in Iraq is good or bad. But in order for their to be complete peace, that would involve a complete conquering of every country and people, and run by a single government. And even then, you'd probably have civil war.
If War is evil, then its a necessary evil. It has to be done, to resolve the wrongs that governments, people, countries do. And World Peace is an illusion that will never exist. A fairy tale that will never come true. But, perhaps we can come as close as we can as long as we monitor the potential threats that are ahead of us.

A great idea. Unfortunately, peace requires cooperation among many parties and a willingness for nations, including ours, to give up power and control in favor of the greater good. As long as Americans are more fascinated with the death of Anna Nicole Smith or whether or not Paris Hilton wears underwear, I doubt we will make much progress on the peace front. I think it requires a lot of self-examination and too many people want to be entertained.

Because of what Americans describe as foreign interest. I must say this is the cause of many wars. Because there is oil in a nation and the nation wishes to trade in it the way they want, those who badly need the oil become angry and use force. Also, a dispute between two nations rapidly escalates because other nations with interest in that country rapidly jump in. What a shame!!!!1

It's called business, take Iraq for example, don't the new Iraqi military uniforms and weapons look kind of familiar, the US government haven't made any money out of re-stocking them have they?
Pluss there is the arms sales to all the US and UK's other friends as well, War is big business and without it this question and answer wouldn't exist!

Wars, like plagues help keep the populations down and create investment opportunities. Economies rely on sporadic conflicts to infuse new cash now and then and little skirmishes like Iraq have proved to be cash cows for major corporations. Global politics puts little value on small loses of life. That hard reality is something everyone must try and understand. It only hurts when one of Yours is involved.

The aim of any government is to last as long as possible.
Societies create goods, goods generate comfort and comfort allows you time to think, which ultimately leads to change.
Governments don't like change.
War destroys. It destroys lives, goods and thus comfort.
As goods are destroyed, men need to keep on working, forever producing goods, which are then destroyed.
Men never get to the level of comfort affording them time to think and change.
Governments have been overthrown but the system remains the same.
Just the name of the boss changes, not the company.

I agree with you. Yes people will have their differences, but people need to keep those differences between them, and not bring it between two countries. Our country should always be prepared for war, but we should try to not be at war. We should only be at war when the population is threatend.
