What's the best way to do research for an investigation that you are planning? How can you find people who may have witnessed or experienced any phenomena? How do you find out the history of a site without knowing to much to jepordize the investigation?

I'm referring to researching for a paranormal investigation/ghost hunt.

start by making an outline of the main topics you want to accomplish and the sub topics.

Utilize all forms of media so you are not biased; internet, library, first hand experiences, hiersay, photography, etc.

start to narrow it down if it becomes too much

Depending on the subject, there are lots of records in the public domain that can be accessed to give you information on a site without "jeopardizing the investigation." The Library of Congress and the National Archives are starting points, but you can also search publicly available databases too.

Should you need assistance contact a historical research company that does this type of thing.

The best sources are not the official places, but hobby sites, yahoo 360° profiles and dating services. Through these you can contact people who are interested in the subject too, and maybe they have more proper info about it. You can also find experts who spend their every-day life with such things. (I admit, that I have found some great heads..too....). Yahoo groups can help, since through group messages you can reach a greater audience...lol
