Dressing for a Valentines dance?

I am going to a Valentines dance at school. I'm not sure what style of dress I should get. I'm 5'5", slim and would like to get a dress that's pretty. I'm not sure if it should be real short or to my knees. Also what kind of shoes should I get and what is the best shade of hose to wear with it?

Starting with the length of the dress, to the knee or 2-3 inches above is always a safe choice. Not knowing your coloring makes it slightly harder, but there are some safe choices to go with.

With something like this you can add great red or white accessories and finish it with red or black heels/flats just depends on what your preference is.

This option isn't the classic red/pink look for a V-Day dance, but is still a great dress. Shiny black heels or even silver for a wow factor would look great.

This is such a flirty fun dress. with gold peep-toed shoes, and black accessories you would look awesome!

I'd suggest getting a dress that goes to right above your knees. Maybe look for an asymmetrical hemmed dress, or one with other detail around the hem. For a neckline, probably look for something strappy and sleeveless, but not too low-cut.

For hose, either get a sheer shade that matches your skin tone or wear no hose (especially if you wear open-toe shoes, no hose...). If you can find some shimmer gel (not glitter!), apply that to your legs instead of hose.

Shoes...strappy kitten heels are cute.

knee length red dress....thin satin bow around the waste.....nude hose...and some comfortable pumps (I've been watching way too many women shows with my wife)....yikes....

take your friends and go find a really nice dress boutique and try one every dress you like. once you've bought a dress... go to a shoe store and find every shoe you like and see if it works. then go to CVS and get hose (b/c its cheap) you can buy like a multi-pack and be done with it.
