I wish that all the spin was just coming from the Republicans...but sadly, the Democrats use the same tactics. Never have I seen so much garbage on the airwaves!
I was raised to respect my elders and people in positions of authority. As I got older, I learned that respect needed to be earned, and I set out to ask all the questions and understand all the issues in order to make an informed decision and give my respect. Pretty hard to do these days...as both sides seem more interested in 'spinning' the facts to garner favor!
What is most disturbing, however, is the fact that the American public seem quite happy to swallow whatever is being spewed...as long as it is coming from 'their' party! The fact that anyone could take Fox News seriously, for example, is a grave concern. I recognize that I am more liberal than conservative in nature and on a vast number of issues - so I suppose that it is easy for me to see where I would disagree...but it goes so much farther beyond disagreement! I am sickened that this kind of silliness passes as news! And that ALL people don't see through it...regardless of their politics!
From this forum, I am learning that there is no middle ground, and there is certainly no considered thought when listening, watching or reading any political discussion. If you listen to the Republicans, they truly think that Democrats hate America, want us to lose the war, and are conspiring to turn us into a Socialist country. If you listen to Democrats, they believe that Republicans are war mongers who delight in the deaths of the Iraqui people.
C'mon folks...there has to be some intelligent life out there...somewhere!?!?

Funny, the article with the so-called "facts" describes Murtha's impassioned plea to get out troops home now, because they are tired, poorly equipped, and the target of the "insurgents". The person who coined "cut and run" was, of course, a Republican!!
Of course, we Libs do it, too, and I'd be less than honest if I didn't say that. But it is really making me, and a great deal of others, sick! No wonder there are so many folks turning their backs on their opportunity to have a voice (voting!). Can no one deal in an honest and straight-forward manner these days?
I used to get very excited as a major election approached. It gave me a chance to argue intelligently with the "opposition", and I felt a great surge of pride and (yeah, fellow-Libs, I'm going to use "their" word...)patriotism as I saw the forces mobilize to garner votes for their candidate.
I guess that is an indication of how old I am!
Now, it just makes me vomit!
EDIT: BTW, Reps, what is a "win" in Iraq?? When all Iraqis are dead? When we find someone else to attack? When bin Laden makes another move? (Since we KNOW and HAVE KNOWN that Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11) We have no "enemy" to speak of, just whoever gets ticked off about something and decides it's the Americans' faults! You think we are SAFER than any time since 9/11??? We are in much more peril! We have angered so many otherwise moderate people; we have created more hotheads than Osama could have recruited in one hundred years.

Both sides do it & the Press loves it. The Democrats still haven't offered a plan - other than what ever Bush comes up with NOT that.
Since the American press seems to be the terrorist 5th column, Let them challenge the Iraqis to live up to what T.E. Lawrence felt they were capable of. Have they grown past how they were at the end of the movie Lawrence of Arabia?

you will see america by no potential began a conflict with any united states of america that had a raffle to rather harm america. And from the size of your checklist, it rather is user-friendly to work out why america isn't familiar in many international locations. america shouldn't start up yet another conflict ( with iran) because of the fact: a million. there is not any justification. 2. america shouldn't do the bidding of a foreign places united states of america ( Israel for this reason) 3. america is broke and easily can no longer arise with the money for yet another conflict. 4. conflict is undesirable. approximately 4,000 individuals died in an pointless conflict in Iraq based on the lie of "weapons of Mass Destruction".

It's not just the GOP, the Democratic Party spins, too. Everyone in politics spins.
And why?
The American political system is such a gold mine for these folks that they will say anything, deny anything, kiss anyone's butt to stay next to the hog trough. What American politics has lost is the sense of responsibility; none of these politicos will stand up and be counted. A country run by politicians deep in denial.

One thing you have to give the Republicans credit for--they do know how to stay on message. No matter how silly that message is. To judge by some of your responses, repetition is indeed a simplistic teaching tool, too....
No, I don't think politics will ever completely lose the spin. We can only judge by who spins the "least" and the "most."

No it will never stop, they are the party of sound bytes and no substance, I give you cut and run as an example. How many times have you heard that since Rush Limbaugh coined the phrase on his radio show. Now it is a accepted thing, but will it ever stop. I really doubt it, hey it worked in 2000 and 2004. I do think more are getting wise to it and rejecting it as the polls show that the evil one is below a third of the country.

I know. I have heard the same thing. You are right. The only plans I have heard about recommend putting a cap on troop levels, not leaving altogether. I think everyone agrees that would be a disaster.

Anyone who uses spin has something to hide, whether they are Republican or Democrat, as they are using abstract negative characterizations to distract you from reasoned honest dialog. Those that do this indicate they have no faith in the persuasiveness of what they have to say, that they have contempt for you as the listener, and nearly always are up to no good, or they would trust you enough to include you in on their private and honest thoughts. This behavior is cynical, and often sinister, and it has been the downfall of our political process. For our country to be successful, we must have an informed population, Congress, and Administration. Any attempt to sabotage open dialog and the honest exchange of information, should only be taken as deliberate deception and an attempt to achieve advantage for personal or group gain. If we, as citizens of this great country would not put up with this behavior, it would have to end quickly, for no one would get elected who engaged in it. It is up to us to demand this stop, or we will deserve whatever happens to us in our willingness to be pandered and lied to.
