I think he is nuts. He believes that since queequeg and Ishamel are in bed together and when they wake up queequeg says they are married that they are involved in a homosexual relationship. What do you think?

Your teacher is nuts, to be kind. It was common for guests at hotels and rooming houses to share a bed.

PS the story is not really about a whale. A teacher told me this about one hundred years ago and I try to work it into the conversation whenever I can.

As I recall, Ishmael was very uncomfortable having to share a bed with queequeg. I don't think they were homosexual at all. Their friendship is interesting but not intimate like that. Besided Queequeg has a funny way of speaking.

During the time that Melville wrote, gay relationships and homosexuality was never mentioned in public and polite society.
That being said, I very much doubt that Melville meant what your
teacher says.

Sounds like he is either gay himself or he is homosexual curious.
