The Mayan Indians regarded their beliefs as both a science and a religion. Their discoveries were not done in a lab but rather by tapping into the cosmos via the mind. Through the extensive use of meditation, they were able to discover and track planetary movements as well as anomalies such as black holes. They used this information to construct a calendar so accurate that no present day calendar can rival its accuracy.
According to some Mayans, this date marks the end of the long count of their calendar; Set to end on a winter solstice (12-21-12). We exit the age of Pisces and enter the age of Aquarius.
On this date, our Solar system is suppose to be in a unique position, in the Milky Way, relative to a black hole at its center. A position that only comes around every 200,000 years or so. We will exit the forth dimension and enter the fifth dimension.
As the earths poles start to migrate, earths magnetic field will start to break down. Humans will be exposed to a cosmic energy that will allow them to become enlightened. We will recognize that all matter, plant, animal, mineral are bound as one; it will mark the end of wars for a time. People will finally be able to connect to the essence of god (vibrating energy) like only the most enlightened can.
The date marks a goal to be reached. Evil forces will make every effort to keep humanity from reaching the date. These evil forces are those entrenched in the third dimension, in the Material world. They have no desire to leave this age and wish to continue exploiting and endangering all life for material gain.
Wars just prior to this date could be devastating. A loss of as much as 2/3 of our population could be anticipated. Environmental damage could make life inhospitable for those who survive such a catastrophe.
Humans posses freewill, the future is not yet set, nor predictable:

While the Mayans were an advanced civilization for their time and place, to imply that they were 'pretty accurate with everything else' is simply untrue. Like the other civilizations of their time, the Mayans were dynastic and superstitious. They believed in the rights of kings, gods and monsters. The ideologies they poured their short, brutish lives into were all roundly proved false. Our ancestors are to be thanked for the advancements they made, however their ignorance should not be made mystical or powerful, certainly not fortune-telling.
Sorry to get off on a tangent, no, I do not think the world will end on 12/23/12.

They didn't predict that the world would end, they perdicted that all humans would go into a new spiritual stage. It is a stage in which there will be 1,000 years of peace- I can't remember the exact site I read this on, but if you google it you can come up with a few that explain the "peace stage." Don't listen to the ones that are saying it is the end of the world.

I doubt it..I always read people predicting when the end of the world will be, but nothing ever happens. When December 23, 2012 is over, they will choose a new day to say when the world will end. Wasn't Y2K supposed to be the end anyway?

Everyone believed the world was gonna come to an end in 2000, and it didn't. The world will end when our star, the sun dies, or so scientists or meteorologists believe. they say the sun in some millions or billions of years, will grow in size, getting bigger and hotter, and then will explode, leaving a new, smaller star in its place and destroying all planets around it. of course, the earth will dry up and die from the excessive heat long before the sun will explode.

The genuine millenium isn't until 2012 (you can thank the Catholic "authorities" for screwing w/ the calender on that one) and the Mayans had absolutely nothing to do w/ Christ when they predicted that, so either it's a really really wierd coincidence or yes.

i read somewhere that the date 2012 was the date of the return of the mayan god Quetzalcoatl. I also read that archeoogists recalculated the dates of the mayan calendar and that his return was supposed to happen in 2004.

Yeah. Plan a party.
And no, the Mayans were not accurate with everything else. They thought the Spanish Conquistadors coming was the return of their god. Look where that got them.

I don't think we should place too much faith in predictions by a civilization which collapsed a long time ago. Would you take financial advice from a broke financial planner or let a disqualified doctor operate on you? Track records are everything when it comes to credibility.

I think it will end in 2012, however, don't know the exact date. The book of Revelations is being lived/experienced now, so it only is a few years from now when the world will be cleansed and a new world order will go forward.
