My needlenose fish usually eats dried shrimp. When she takes one, her mouth stays open slightly for about a minute until it gets into her gullet good, then it's nearly closed for another minute or two, until it goes into the stomach. Then the mouth completely closes. For the last couple of days, her mouth has stayed open like she has just eaten something, but hasn't. When we try to feed her even the smallest shrimp, she doesn't take it. What can be wrong and how can I help?

Odds are very good she has food stuck in her throat or gullet. A sharp peice of shrimp could stick or a particularly large peice got stuck. If this is the case it should clear up with a few days without any assistance.

I agree odds are she bit off more than she could chew, literally. If it is something that can potentially puncture the gullet then you need to keep an eye out for secondary infections, and the symptoms that they bring. If it doesnt clear up in a day or 2 net her and see if you can tell if anything is stuck. Dont try to push or pull it out just see if you can see anything stuck. If its anything but food then steps might need to be taken to remove it.
