What would you put first: friendship or your duty? For Patrolman Wells, even though loyalty is a good thing, doing your job properly is more important. Something Patrolman Wells does to indicate his devotion to his work is at the beginning of the story when he strolls back and forth along his post not to show off for the few spectators, but to ensure that his job was done properly. Later, Jimmy arrests Bob and writes, “...I saw it was the face of a man wanted in Chicago” (p.228). Jimmy’s decision to arrest Bob proves that he values obedience to the law over friendship. O. Henry proves to the reader that Jimmy went through with the arrest and remained loyal to the law by stating, “‘You’ve been under arrest for ten minutes, ‘Silky’ Bob’” (p.228). The reader can easily tell that Patrolman Wells takes his duty very seriously.

Anyone that knows anything about writing, is that part of writing is having someone edit your work for syntactical errors. It's not cheating or wrong, it's very smart. I only wish more of my students would solicite help from people in this way. You have obviously done the work and you are wise to have someone else look over it. It's very easy to miss things when you've looked at it many times in the writing process. You've done a good job here.

hate to break it to you vikki, but NOT EVERYONE IS AS perfect as you and can find every mistake by themselves. it helps a lot to have someone else look it over to find things you missed. AND ITS RECCOMENDED BY THE NATIONAL BEST AUTHORS ASSOCIATION

make sure you indent at the beginning of the paragraph!

"For Patrolmen Wells, even though loyalty is a good thing, doing HIS job properly is more important."

instead of your - put his

"strolls back and forth along his post, not to show off"

add a comma after post

otherwise its great!

The only way you can get better at writing is by editing YOUR OWN THINGS! I don't mean to come off as rude but you'll get more out of it than asking others to do the work for you.
