without quoting any law....well, here goes.

from what i have observed from my uncles, it's for the hunting of wild animals fit for eating and recreational purposes.

from what i have observed from my father-in-law, self defense when he's in the "hood".

also, people like to collect guns for fun (like a hobby). you know the nice nazi ones with the eagle on the handle worth $2000. but there are also people who like to kill other people, and guns can be very effective in doing that.

By eon old law I suppose you mean the second amendment. Okay here goes.

Let's start with the Ottoman Empire around 1890 or so, then move to Hitler in Germany and the to Stalin in Russia and then to Poi in Cambodia. In these instances the government used the excuse of criminal activity to force its citizens to register their guns. Then almost immediately began to confiscate them.

After the populations were unarmed and helpless those governments began to slaughter people. Directly and indirectly they are responsible to about 20 million deaths. In 2005 criminal homicide in this country accounted for about 32,000 death, (not all of them with guns by the way) and at that rate it would take the criminal element hundreds of years to come anywhere's close to the slaughter that movements have caused in the last 120 years or so.

I don't care to join any of those people that were disarmed and slaughtered. It would be foolish to think it would never happen here as well. I'm sure that Germany and Russia thought it couldn't happen to them.

As far as a limited amount of household uses goes, well it depends on your household doesn't it? I live in the country where we have occasion to deal with rabid animals, wounded livestock, poisons snakes and such. We also hunt as a family activity and we are a long ways from the sheriff's office in the event that we needed such help.

We are in independent lot. We are self reliant. That scares some people in the government as they feel that independent folks threaten their power and they'd like to take away our guns.

What’s more, in the US law abiding citizens stop a significant number of crimes each year using a gun to do so. According to Professor Gary Kleck we do so about 2.5 Million times each year. The professor who is a criminologist also says that your average armed citizen in more than ten times more likely to use a gun to stop a crime than a uniformed police officer is.

If those are not reasons enough than I don’t think there will any convincing you.

Good luck.

Hunting, self-defense from wild animals and criminals, and for fun.

My Peacemaker also makes a great paper weight and in a pinch it can be used as a hammer.

In my house a California wine has no use.
