check out for a list of restaurants in Taichung city: http://www.taiwanfun.com/central/taichung/dining/index.htm

for a list of shopping centers in taichung city check out:

for shopping centers in Taichung i personally recommend:

Shei-Nan morning market if you want authentic street food and an excellent selection of everything else you can want at cheap prices. Feng-Jia night market for the same things in the evening time and probably better quality clothing and electronics there.

The hypermart (supermarket +daily needs) market includes RT Mart, Karrefour and Geant (in Taichung)

Welcome Mart is a good supermarket chain but more expensive than the hypermarkets. Wu-Ma-Ru supermarket is a good place for your (overpriced) Japanese (high quality) food needs.

good department stores include Sogo, Mitsukoshi (shin-gong-san-yue), both on the main road.
Jung-yo is another good bet for a department store.
Taichung Central is another mall worth looking at (near the train station)

The best place for electronics in Taichung is NOVA on Kung-Yi Road.

and of course any street you walk down is bound to have the same stuff you see in the department stores and more interesting things besides. (often cheaper than dept stores.) Part of the fun of living here is wandering down the road in a different direction and seeing the mad things available near your house.

Well, You have the area around Taipei 101. There's also a bunch of shopping around Sogo, or near the main railroad station and Shinkong Mitsukoshi. Enough of shopping centers (because I really prefer the night markets)......

Restaurants??? What kind? For fancy you have Ruth's Chris Steak house, Tony Roma's & Trader Vic's. For fancy Chinese there are the many hotel restaurants. Seafood I recommend either Hai Bawa or the Hai Fu Seafood Palace in Neihu..... But my very favorites are Buddhist vegetarian buffets where you pay by the weight.
