It depends on how large the tank is.

You'll need 2-5 gallons per inch of fish. Usually it's 10 gallons per fancy goldfish (everything except comets) and 20 gallons per common goldfish (comets). More is always better as far as goldfish go.

Once a goldfish reaches 3-4 inches, you'll need 20 gallons per fancy,30 gallons per common.

Goldfish can get up to two feet long and they get -old-. =) As for water changes? The good old fashioned way is 25% every week. More if you're overstocked,a little less can be let go if you're far understocked.

Always keep up with your water params too. Get a case of dipstick testers and you're good to go. =)

Keeping fish is a learning experience and it takes a while, but don't get discouraged.

Goldfish can grow anywhere from 1/2 an inch to 5 inches, depending on the goldfish. You will also need a 5-8 gallon tank for 1 goldfiish. My brother tried to keep 2 goldfish in his 2.5 gallon tank - it didn't work out so well.

To keep the water clear, just change it regularly, or you can get a bottle of Start Right Clohrine(spelling?) remover at your local petstore.

- Hope this helped -

Fancy varieties generally stay under 12" while single tails can get 18". You will need 10 gallons of cycled, filtered water per 3 inches of fish.

to keep the water clear, filters with carbon in them do wonders in my tank. or they have special drops at the local fish store that you can just drop into the tank, i dont really believe in those drops just because I dont have experience from using them. but my carbon/bio filter in my whisper pump keeps my water crystal clear. good luck.
