Black History month is everywhere. Martin Luther King, etc, etc. That's all well and good. But just to be fair, why is there no "White History Month", or "European American History Month"? Why do black people have to be called "African Americans" while White people are just "White" or even more degrading names? I mean, since all races are equal, should we not do the same? This could go on and on.......I think we should either have "Black History Month", "White History Month", "Asian History Month" and "European History Month" and so on and so on all together, or just not celebrate any of them at all......to be fair......
Is there anyone else who agrees with me?

lalapalooza, Why on earth do you think that Black history should be celebrated all the time?
And Irish-Americans have a rough history. The majority of them were extremely poor immigrants who worked for almost nothing and were treated unfairly. Is it wrong to have an Irish-American History month?
If you say no, then would that not make you racist?

I agree with you. Many people feel that white history is taught year around and black history is only taught in Feb. History class does not teach just white history. It teaches the history of America. It teaches us about the slave trade, the trail of tears, the spanish, etc. American history class teaches us about everything. Not about just one race. I feel that they should make Feb. the month of every culture. Every couple of days you learn about another culture. Don't get me wrong I think it is very important to learn about black history, but I also feel that it is equally important to learn the history of every culture that lives among us.

What a coincidence, I am doing an article on "Why Can't We Have a White History Month" as this topic has resurfaced amongst some entities in the Defense arena and gained a decent amount of visibility in the Equal Opportunity world. I think that there are some good points that have been brought out here. Does anyone mind if I use a few excerpts from their statements? I would also like to ask, how do you feel the adding of this month would increase racial tensions, what does that look like to you? Also, help me to understand your statement about being ungrateful. Thank you.

White history month? You want white history month when the majority of the American curriculum is based on the study of the white men's accomplishments, his feats, and his so called 'rule" You want white history month when Columbus and Lincoln supposedly bettered America with their propagandas? Be fair? Are you joking? How many holidays are attributed to African Americans in comparison to whites? What we have Martin Luther King holiday...hmmm thats it isn't it? Yes...I believe it is. White history month is pretty much the entire freakin year! So we get one month, not to mention the most brief month of the year Feburary for uniting as a people and remembering our acheivements as a strong nation of black kings, queens, princes, and princesses. And even it being the shortest month of the year, Is that so hard to live with?

american history IS white history. its being taught in school across the country as we speak. african american is supposed to be the politically correct way to address me but im just as cool with being called black thank you. the reason we have black history month besides the fact that we were treated so poorly is because we faught for equality and this is what came with the deal. we didn' t put down other races to get it. not even the white race. we just said "hey, now we have treated up unfairly and the injustice has been ignored by america. can you please do something to make amends?" thus black history month.
yes, there are other races that have been treated just as badly. do they deserve to have a month or two to celebrate their history. sure if all you really care about is having a month to yourself then WHY NOT??!!!!!
but honestly answer me this. is this really about a month of the year? if all you are complaining about is the fact that we are granted a month out of the year where america can join us in celebrating black culture, then you don't really get it. we did not ask to have a month congress gave it to us. all we asked for was the chance to be treated as equals. to not be hated because of our skin. to be given the chance to receive the same education as everyone else.
i mean what ever happened to that "40 arces and a mule" promised to us so long ago to make up for 200+ years of slavery? what would you do then?
and just so you know, blacks celebrate black history all year around. instead of acting like a spoiled child you should go out and celebrate you history too.
all of you

Not this question again! You should have put "white history month" in the search bar and saved your points because people have been asking this question all month.
I think its a waste of time because you are just gonna get the same answers:
WHITE HISTORY IS TAUGHT IN EVERY SCHOOL, EVERY YEAR! ITS CALLED "HISTORY CLASS"! THEREFORE YOU DONT NEED A MONTH!!!!!!
with that said....have a very Happy Black History Month!

Ha! White History means nothing? George Washington on every dollar, Benjamin Franklin made up the notion of Daylight Savings.... Columbus... names on streets, buildings... white history is everywhere! All history should be taught together, no one should have a special treatment. It should be American History.

Well it really isn't...plus it isn't even interesting. I can sum up white history in one word....WAR! After hearing about it for so long it's just worthless. You white people still don't seem to understand that you already torture us all year round with your history what is the big deal about 28 days of black history? Stop all the bull crap and complaining. It's making me sick. Every day you all come one here and whining about there is no white history month....blah blah blahhhhhh. Why should we be fair when you all aren't fair to us? I mean really. Stop being self-fish. You all run the world for goodness sake. You control everything and everyone. The last thing I want to hear is "there's no white history month....be fair...blah blah blah"!

Ummmm, do you live in America? Look around, white history is right under your nose, from the pictures of white dead folks on the money you spend to just about every history text book known to man. OK, after all that our people have been through, (slavery), and the fact that my ancestors were robbed of every ounce of dignity, even after slavery was abolished, and lets be real it does still exist, can we have these little 28 days without you crying, huh?
