Well the story takes place on the African plains. The current Lion King, Mufasah, and his queen Sarabi have a son who they name Simba. Simba grows up a very sheltered cub and yearns for adventure. One day he and his friend, Nala, go exploring. In spite of his chaperone, a very worrisome bird named Zazu, Nala and Simba decide to go to the elephant grave yard. This is a very dangerous place. As Nala and Simba are exploring, they soon realize they are surrounded by hungry Hyenas. Just as the hyenas are about to eat them, Mufasah comes to the rescue. Nala and Zazu go home and Simba and his dad have a talk about how dissapointed his dad is. Little does anyone know, Scar, Mufasah's brother, is very jealous of him and Simba because he wants to be next in line to be King. He put up all the hyenas to eat Simba because then he could be King.The next day Simba, who is innocently sitting on a rock, hears a loud rumble. He sees a large heard of wildabeast coming his way. Just as the cub is about to be trampled, Mufasah again comes to his rescue. Simba is thrown to safety and just as Mufasah struggles to, Scar appears. He admits to Mufasah that he planned the wildabeast attack. Then he lets his own brother fall into the stampede and he dies. After this, Simba finds his dead father thinking he caused the death. Scar and the hyenas chase him and try to kill him, but he escapes into the desert. They tell him never to return, but they think he will die anyway. The tired Simba collapses in the desert and is found by a meerkat ,named Timone, and a warthog ,named Pumba, who live nearby, in a lush jungle. The two wake Simba up and nurse him back to health, but they are a bit scared at first because he is a lion. Soon, they are teaching him to eat bugs and they become great friends, as Simba grows up. One day though another, hungry lion comes through the jungle trying to eat Pumba. Simba defends his friend. Soon, he discovers though that this lion is Nala, his old friend. She cannot beleive it is Simba. She tells him Scar told everyone he was dead. She also says now that Scar is king the entire land is opressed and starving. She says they need Simba to go back and save the Kingdom, but afraid of his past Simba refuses. This is until he sees a spirit of his father telling him to go back. Simba, Nala, Timone and Pumba go back to the kingdom. They fight Scar and kill him. Nala and Simba get married, then have their own cub, and the kingdom is peaceful again. The story begins with a young lion cub named Simba being born as a 'prince' into a pride (like a group) of lions. His parents, Mufasa (dad) and Sirabi (mom) are the leaders of their animal community, like royalty, and rule their kingdom from Pride Rock.

Mufasa's brother, Scar (who is also Simba's uncle) wanted to rule the kingdom for himself. But because Simba had been born, the young prince is now next in line for the throne. Scar does not like this so he devises a plan for his lackies, the hyenas, to try and kill Simba. Mufasa rescues Simba in time from the hyenas and scolds Simba for putting himself in a bad situation.

Mufasa talks with his son about the stars and how all the kings of their past live among them.

In another attempt to kill Simba, Scar positions his nephew in the way of an oncoming stampede. Mufasa tries to rescue his son, but instead Scar basically kills him by throwing him off a cliff. Thinking that it was all his fault, Simba runs away from Pride Rock and never takes his rightful place as king.

Simba finds himself in a jungle where he meets a meerkat named Timon and a Warthog named Pumba. The odd pair take Simba into their care and raise him, showing him all the ways of the jungle. Simba grows up with them and slowly forgets his life at Pride Rock. That is until his childhood best friend Nala comes to the jungle searching for help.

She reminds him of his duty to take place as king and tells him that Scar had made Pride Rock a wasteland, giving the hyenas free roam. While she is there, the two also form a more romantic relationship, as the king's advisor, Zazu had predicted when they were younger. Also, a wise old baboon named Rafiki shows up to remind Simba of his father. Simba becomes convinced that he has to do something so he quickly makes his way back to pride rock.

Simba challenges Scar as king. Scar has the hyenas on his side while Simba has the lionesses of the old time on his. The two sides fight for a while, with a big face-off between Scar and Simba.

Scar manages to put Simba in the same position that Mufasa had been in all those years ago. Just as he was about to let go and allow Simba to fall to his death, Scar whispers into Simba's ear. "I killed Mufasa." Simba suddenly realizes that it was never his fault at all for his father's death and is filled anger. He fights back even harder, then gets the upper-hand in the fight. Scar began acting like a coward and told Simba that it was all the hyenas fault. The hyenas overhear this and get mad. Simba lets them take care of Scar, who didn't survive this time.

With the battle being over, it begins to rain on Pride Rock. This rain will allow the grass to grow again and the animals will return, restoring the kingdom back to its glory again.

At the end, we see Nala and Simba have now become King & Queen of Pride Rock and have a lion cub of their own. Rafiki (the wise old baboon) lifts the cub up into the air to show the animals of pride rock their new princess.** In the Lion King 2 we learn that this cub's name is Kiara.

The musical is not that different. It has a few different songs, including 'He Lives in You' which also was put into Lion King 2 the movie. Another difference is that Scar wants to make Nala his bride. Other than that, I remember it being fairly similar.


Both the movie and/or musical are very much worth seeing, so I think you might get more out of it if you just rented the film. Hope I helped though, and didn't say too little or too much.

the lion king is about a lion prince that gets in trouble and his dad is there to save him, but then there is his uncle and he wants to be the king so he wants to kill the prince and the king so he can be the king... he dose kill his brother and he will send away the boy and the boy meets pumba and timon.at last they get the prince the kingdom. see the movie!!!!! you will know the details.
