You could try a higher viscosity oil like 50w but the knocking is due to your piston rods loosening and one day it will just flat knock a hole in your engine block.
It's pretty impressive when it happens but you don't want to be in a bad neighborhood when it does.. keep tow insurance handy!

Adjust the timing , could be lifters get a good oil additive that cleans your motor made for lifters if its a rod knocking you have no choice but to rebuild. fill it with stp and hope for the best. try running it for awhile it will either blow or quiet down check oil pressure maybe the oil pump went out . If its a rod no oil in the world is going to fix it thicker oil may quit it down but will not last long.

the knocking could be a main bearing or connecting rod bearing,in which you would have to replace them.alot depends on how many miles are on the motor, how long it has sat,in what type of environment has it been sitting idle in,or you can do a compression test to each cylinder ,could be a push rod that opens the valves,2 valves per cylinder,(intake & exhaust),if you do not get a good reading on the compression gauge it would be that cylinder it would be intake or exhaust valve.Try looking into the problem this way before trying any miracle oil.COMPRESSION CHECK FIRST.

Yes, if you put a thicker engine oil in it. It will rduce the engine noise and protect the rod. (thats what you hear knocking). There is this stuff at Auto Zone called: Greased Lightning, it looks like honey. I used it before and it works good. Also thers is stuff called Slick 50 availabe.

engine probably needs rebuilt but you could try changing the oil and adding a bottle of Lucas engine stabalizer to the oil and see if it helps.

Tune-up and/or higher octane gas is the cheapest way to try and stop it.
