My friend's laptop was showing horizontal lines across the screen, he just came in from the cold and after re-start it appears to be ok...

Any ideas if the cold or something else could have caused the lines and the cursor to appear oddly shaped?

It's a mac g3 i book :D

Thanks in advance!

YES, LCD screens that are on most Laptops stands for Liquid Crystal Display, and has an ideal operating temperature of 40-80 degrees Farenheit. They will work in colder or hotter environments but just like liquid, in colder environments the fluid phosphor array will become more solid (lines, pixels missing) or in hotter environments, the liquid will become too fluid (oversaturation, permanent loss in brightness, leaks from excess pressure, missing pixels from blocked channels rather than freezing) and both extremes could result in breakage.

Take the hint and keep your laptop out of that kind of environment from now on.

Cold will most definitely affect your LCD monitor on your laptop.... We had to fix 12 laptops last year after our user stored the laptop in a cold storage....

If you bring your laptop out in the cold, when you bring it into a warm place, let it sit for 20-30 minutes to warm up before powering it up....
