Hi. I have a gateway laptop. when I got it, Hardrive Disk carried over 60G if memory. A while ago, I had to do a system restore because of a virus, I even got a CD from Gateway (Resoration DVD). Well, anyway, when I got to start, my computer, right click Locak Disk drive to see how much memory I have, it now says 23.2 G of TOTAL memory. I don't understand why? Anyone?

Sometimes the computer will create a partition on the drive. The partition can be any size up to the total amount of space on the drive. It's possible you may have created a 24 GB partition on your 60GB drive. All is not lost though. If you are using Windows XP, there is an easy way to find the rest of your storage space and make it usable.

First you'll right-click on My Computer and click "Manage" from the drop down list. This will bring up the Computer Management window. On the left there are 3 main options. The middle option is called "Storage." Click the "+" next to storage to display the options within. Then click "Disk Management" and it should load the "Logical Disk Management" on the right hand side of the screen. You should find a Disk 0 with your 24GB partition and probably some unpartitioned space on the same disk. You can right click on the unpartitioned space and create a new volume or an extended partition. This will assign it a drive letter and allow you access to the rest of your hard disk space.

Good luck!
