Don't throw the whole bag in. If the bag has a staple, remove the staples, also most inks have metals in them, which is why we do not use the colored pages from the newspaper in our gardens.
The best thing would be to open the bags, and when you have a decent size collection, add the leafs to your compost pile or other things you are burieing in the garden.
You also need to know what each plant you have needs. Evergreens love coffee grounds for the acid they add to the soil. I am not sure what is in a tea bad, as far as chemical compounds.

Yes, you can soak orange pekoe tea bags for five minutes in warm water, put 2 or 3 around the base of your rose plant , keep doing it every 4-6wks. blooms will double, also coffe grounds around them, keeps the aphids off.

I have found that coffee grounds are great for female dog pee spots on the lawn and the grounds from tea bags are good for my rose bushes. R~

fantastic, I usulally break the teabag open first, then mix with water before putting on the garden. Also great is egg shells, they can do great things for plants, specially roses, they bring out more colour in the flowers as well as promote growth

Tea bags are great to add to your compost pile, this way the bag dies and the acid in the tea isn't harsh to your plants.
