and then Mac OS X Leopard comes out, will it upgrade the operating system without losing a ton of speed? Has anyone upgraded an operating system on their Mac? Did it slow the computer down or did it work seamlessly?

I recently upgraded my iBook to Tiger and everything is faster. Granted I also put in a new 160 GB HD and the way Macs use virtual memory makes it fly.

Your upgrade to Leopard will be easy and will not bog down the system at all. Also if you Buy a current MacBook and then Apple releases Leopard, they often will allow you to upgrade well below the normal $129.00 price.

Enjoy the new MacBook, it's a wise choice.

Leopard will not slow down the computer when you upgrade. Leopard is being tested on computers that have come out last January. You're computer will be able to run Leopard at a very good speed. Don't worry about that. Hope this helped!
