I know I a lot of Mexican-Americans raised by English speaking parents and they like to make fake Spanish accents! Well my family is English and everybody tells me that i'm in America now and I shouldn't talk with an English accent!! :( Why is not okay for people of English descent to use an English accent but it is perfectly okay for a person of Mexican descent to use a Spanish acent??

"Everybody" tells you? You must be surrounded by fools.

I have different experiences. If/when I try to say something in French or Spanish, I am religiously told "You say that with an American accent" (strange because there are many American accents). Meanwhile, BOTH groups speak English with thick accents. Maybe we should say "Your saying that with a Mexican-Spanish accent" when they speak English.

As far as you are concerned; ignore those people. Americans love the British accent and you will go farther in business and culture if you have one.

I don't think it wouldn't be ok. If you're mocking someone that's different. Many Hispanics don't speak that good English, and so many of the ones who can fake their accents when they want to get out of a situation of some sort. It's easy for them to get away with it, because they have a second language. But talking the way you talk shouldn't be a problem.

it's ok for anyone to have an accent. but if you're faking it to fit in, that's not cool.

I think it's because Americans feel threatened by anyone who speaks English correctly. Maybe you should correct them when they mispronounce and devalue YOUR language.
