Great, I was changing my son and he got vaseline on a really nice cotton sweater of mine. How do I deal with this?

Vaseline is not a strong petroleum distillate. You can wash it out with your normal laundry soap. But if you want a little extra oomph, pretreat the spot with the laundry soap for a few minutes before you launder the load.

If you already consider it ruined, then this can't hurt. I called the Shout! help line about a stain that I washed AND dried.
They told me to spray Shout! on the stain and let it dry overnight (contrary to the instructions on the bottle) and then wash it as normal.
This has never failed me nor has it ruined any clothing...it even got out spaghetti sauce that had been washed and dried.

try ERA liquid laundry detergent. it works on most greasy stains.

put some on the spot full strength, let sit for an hour or so and wash in the hottest water that is safe for the sweater.

it has never failed me!

I would try running hot water through where the vaseline is. I would think it would "melt" out.
