Hi, this is the first time I've ever posted a question, but here goes. We have been trying to get preggo for 2 years, 1 miscarriage a year ago. We are about to start fertility treatments. This is day 30 of my cycle, & I had a VERY faint positive on an equate test. I went to Walmart, bought more tests, drank 2 bottles of water, & tested again, one Equate one CBE early detection, both negative. Could be b/c I drank the water (istructions say not to), or not early morning urine? I'm waiting til tomorrow to test again... Anyone have a similar experience? No sign of AF, but I could be late b/c the fertility doc upped my progesterone dosage to lengthen my luteal phase. Thank you.

I used the Equate tests and got a very faint positive the first couple of tests. I had to hold it just right in bright sunlight to see the line. I've been told that a faint positive is still a positive, though. Since you are getting mixed results, I'd wait a day or two and take another test with the first morning's urine.

Good luck and I really hope you get the positive you've been waiting for!!

If you do not chart or monitor your fertility in any way, and you think you may have conceived, you should wait 19 days (or longer) after having sex to test. Why 19?! Sperm can live approximately 5 days in the proper environment; if the sperm managed to live until you popped an egg, the actual conception could have taken place several days after the sex act that got the sperm there. To make sure you're not testing too early, assume the sperm had very long lives (5 days is considered a very long sperm life) and that conception occurred then. Then allow 14 days for the embryo to implant and develop enough hCG to show up on a pregnancy test (96% of pregnant women will test positive by then.)

Do I have to test with my first morning urine (FMU)? Not necessarily. In general, FMU is the most concentrated urine of the day and thus more likely to have built up more hCG in it. If you are testing early (before 14 DPO), the HPT is more likely to detect the hCG in your FMU. After 14 DPO there should be enough hCG to be detected at any time of day. Some women have better luck with second morning urine (SMU.) A good rule of thumb: hold your pee for 3-4 hours (and drink as little as possible!) Then pee in a cup. If your urine looks nice and yellow, it's concentrated enough for testing (see FAQ 16 below for more info on peeing in cups vs. peeing on sticks.) If it looks diluted, dump it and try again later.

I would do another test in a few days, but I've learned by reading the instructions that come with the test that when you get a line no matter how faint means you're pregnant, but if you want to make sure take another test or go and see your doc and have a blood test which will definitely answer your question.

Generally even a faint positive is a positive. The water definitely could have impacted the later results because the hormone levels are still so low in early pregnancy. Either wait a few hours tonight and take another one or test again first thing tomorrow morning.

Congratulations. A positive is a positive. A negative can be wrong because you are still extremely early . The other test just picked it up. I always get Very faint positives at first because I test early, and I have had negative after too, with another test...But it still means positive. :)

Definitely do not drink water before testing because it dilutes the urine, making it harder to pick up the hcg....You should use the first morning urine (do not drink before you go) because it is the most concentrated...I would say definitely test again using the first morning urine and see what you get! Good Luck!

drinking the water doesn't help because it dilutes your urine. you can test any time of the day that you want, just don't drink a ton of water right before. test again tomorrow. there is no such things as a false positive test, so if you got one to show up positive, the chances that you are pregnant are good.

They proberbly came up neg cos the concentration of hsg was to low cos you drank all that water.
If you got a faint possitive you are pregnant but very early in the pregnancy, when you test tomorrow the line may be darker. use your first morning urine so the concentration of hsg is at its highest.
congratulations

You get the best result first thing in the morning so try again then. Also dont' drink a bunch of water as this can dilute your urine.
