I have created the website, Layden With Stitches. A free tutorial site devoted to teaching needlecrafters how to convert their photos to cross-stitch designs. I have a section on scanning but it needs work. Is there someone that can help explain the fundamentals of scanning better than I? The site is at

Each scanner is different. My current scanner just has a button right on the top that you push and it's all done for me, but my last one didn't have that feature. The best thing to do is advise the user to check their manufaturers directions on how to scan a photo with their particular scanner.

To scan the image, lay it on your printer screen. Press Scan. An image is sent to your computer where it's stored until you need to Print it.
