i have the same question for hw...and i got the answer!!

the current is 1mph..
Lynn is 3mph...
it works...
dont worry how..
Lynn travles 2mph upstream...he traves for 2 hours..which is 4 miles away... he comes back going 4mph..and he gets back in one hour.
the log comes to the starting point in 2 hrs..
the first hour is when Lynn swims more...
the last hour is when lynn comes back..
if u need an equation or sumtin..

Both ways - but upstream leads to memories, pleasant and painful, and true or false - and downstream mostly leads to things I can do no more, or a broad estuary of unknown and unpredictable diversions. Either way will do me fine. It's enough to be alive, and do what I can. As long as I'm afloat one way or another. I used to fight the current. That was a great effort, but satisfying, and got some good things done. Now I don't have to bother. I've done my bit. So now I just spit into the stream occasionally, and stay afloat. Anyway I agree with Seaman ab - life's more of an ocean than a river - and that's where I'd rather be.

the question doesn't make sense. if he paddled upstream and then continued to paddle upstream, and that was the only paddling he did, then it wouldn't be possible for him to float back to the starting point and meet up with the log since they are traveling at the same speed, something in your wording is mistaken, if u fix your wording i can try to help
