My cd drive is broken in my old computer so I can't back-up anything to a disc, but that is where all my iTunes files are. I am getting a new laptop tomorrow and I want all my files on it instead. Can I transfer all my files to my new computer via my iPod? Or will it cause my iPod to go blank? I can't afford to lose the files (I bought 50% of them, and the ones I didn't I ripped my own CD collection).

My new computer will have Windows Vista, so I will need software that is supported for it.

There are some programs you can get online (for free or purchase) that will let you copy the songs from your iPod to another computer. I'm a Mac user and I've used Senuti http://www.fadingred.org/senuti/ which works great. If you're a Windows user, there are some programs that offer trial versions or shareware like:

1. iPodRip - http://www.thelittleappfactory.com/application.php?app=iPodRip
2. PodUtil - http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/software/podutil.php
3. Anapod - http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/

They have some limited features like only allowing you to use it for a certain number of times, but you're only going to have to do it once anyway. :)

I've had this problem before when my computer crashed and I lost all my files. There are many programs that you can install in your new computer so that you can move the songs from your iPod to your new iTunes library.
This program offers a free trial so you don't even have to buy it if you use it once to move the files. http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/musicrescue/

No. The iPod cannot do that. The songs have to go from computer to computer. The iPod can only update itself to 1 library, not 2.

Be very careful! My friend lost all his tunes by plugging it into someone else's laptop. I'm new to itunes so my advice is to find a professional nerd and ask. Sorry not more helpful.
