The remotest inhabited island in the world is Tristan de Cunha. It is in the South Atlantic, 1600 miles south of St. Helena, which is an island a few hundred miles off the coast of South Africa. The total population is 242. The smallest island is the world is considered to be Bishop Rock off the south west point of the United Kingdom. Bishop Rock houses a manned lighthouse and is a 46 x 16 meter expanse of rocks.

There may be a smallest inhabited island, but it may be unnamed since it may be just a piece land with no more than 1 sq meter sticking up from the ocean (or the coast). I don't know why would anybody want to buy such an island since you may even need to sleep standing up.
