He shouldn't sleep immediately after eating. He should eat, then have waketime, then sleep. A baby is most alert right after eating, and they are happy and have a full belly. Getting into that pattern will help with sleep and establishing a routine. At 3 weeks you can probably not count on the baby staying awake for very much time after eating, probably 45 minutes after starting a feeding they will be back in bed. A 2 1/2 to 3 hour spacing from the beginning of one feeding to the beginning of the next feeding is probably what you can aim for at that age. Also be sure to focus on full feedings rather than snacking.

Could just be gas, make sure he is getting a really good burp after he eats. If you are laying him down after he eats, he could just be uncomfortable if there is a bubble of gas still there. If the burping doesn't help, call your doctor and ask them.

Is your baby bottle or breast fed? My first thought would be gas. Sometimes the little ones can't expel all the gas. Even a burp or two might not be a sign that all of it is gone. If he is bottle fed you might look into a new bottle or sometimes a couple of gas drops helps amazingly. Good Luck!

Gas - try gently pushing his knees up to his chest to encourage gas passage. And try Mylicon drops. They are expensive, but I hear that they are worth it.
