(Now Im not asking someone to plan my life out for me, I just want some other ideas besides the couple I have now; to see all my options)

Fiance is going to school to be an orthodontist, and Im joining the Marines. I wanted to enlist but Ive been persuaded otherwise by a lot of people; so Im going to go through NROTC (Not Navy, Marines). Ive always known I wanted to go into the military, but if I want to make a career out of it; I might as well put in the extra 4 years and get an education to start out at a decent rank.

But back on topic. I want to go through NROTC (Marines) and come out a 2nd Lt. in the USMC Infantry. My question is, what major would you reccomend for someone that has a decent head on their soldiers but not a genious, that would hate a deskjob.

Im just looking for some ideas here, Ive been looking into Criminal Justive for the past year but I want to see what other people's opinions are.

(Probably going to Purdue)(Indiana)

--Thanks alot

Criminal justice is a good background for law or law enforcement. If your interests are a little broader, think about sociology--or better yet, history (especially at a school like Purdue--you can probably focus on military history or history of technology--outstanding prep for afuture officer). They provide a solid base for either of those two careers--plus a lot more. And is not something that will track you into a "desk job--theser are areas that provide broad based educations and keep your options open.

If you're at Purdue, definately consider engineering of some kind--it's good prep for today's high-tech military.

Why don't you try for Westpoint if you are serious about becoming an officer(and a gentleman!!). ROTC is A good idea too- Try to get a broad base in your undergrad- some economics/some sciences/and some computer sciences.
Push yourself academically- and in all areas
Be a U.S. citizen
Be between the ages of 17 and 26
Have a high school CGPA of at least 2.50
Have a high school diploma or equivalent
Score minimum of 920 on the SAT (math/verbal) or 19 on the ACT (excluding the required writing test scores)
Meet physical standards
Agree to accept a commission and serve in the Army on Active Duty or in a Reserve Component (U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard)
This is what you need -
As to the major an economics and computer science is the best combo- be sure to take some philosophy courses along with debate you can go places.

well, for starters, you're futurizing. I would say go in to the NROTC and do that and take required courses for a degree. if criminal justice is your bailiwick, I would continue on that route. many community colleges and private schools have degreed and certification programs for that.

you could be an investigator with law enforcement or insurance, you could get into forensics. my nephew is in the army (realize marines and army are a whole different puppy) doing flight and mechanics and wants to go into aviation. also, as an aside, my brother in law is a security guard in Century City and Beverly Hills and provides security for movie starts and high profile people. there is a lot of money in that.

the answers will come, but don't futurize.

:) Well it would depend on what your interests are :) None of us are mind readers, so if you are looking into criminal justice I suggest you take it! It just might be your place in life :)

Good luck!
