i was going to get a upgrade and pay for another phone and just have it on pay and go, i know there will be a charge for a new handset can i do this?

the deposit is to cover them if you fail to pay future bills etc, if you pay the deposit and pay all the monthly bills on time and in full at the end of the contract term you will get your deposit back,if you fail to pay the bills they will use the deposit to cover some of the unpaid money if you ever breach the terms of the contract by not paying, the length of time you have ben with orange might also be a factor as well as your credit rating etc, they look at all these things.when deciding if they need a seposit from customers. as some people get a new top notch contract phone and then fail to pay the bills.

how long was the contract for ? if it was a year ( as normal ) its your ' phone so give them a termination date , as it may keep 'rolling ', of a month . after that the 'phone is yours then go pay as you go or just buy another hand set and put in you r existing sim card ( you will need a PAC number for that and orange must provide it - as per contract - don't quote me here ' ) when you have your new hand set put in your old sim card and activate with another 'phone and the operator should guide you through the steps while you have your hand set with you - good luck .
