It's all in how they are read, someone may think that you wrote awesome song lyrics when you just thought it was a really awesome poem. How do you think that britney spears got her hit me baby one more time? I wrote that you know, It was poem about my boyfriend and myself going through the stages of BDSM. LOL JK!!!!

Lyrics are specifically written to support a melody. Poems are made to stand on their own.
