but on a more serious note, I looked at the Duke roster and saw that there were only 3 black guys on the roster out of 15,any idea to why its that way? at this question, some white people are probably gona start going "o ur just throwing a racial stereotype at us". you know what get over it, everyone knows black people tend to be good athletes, THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO EVERYONE THOUGH, i think Duke's McRoberts who happens o be white is pretty athletic, so is UNC's Hansborough. But. u cant shy away from the fact that every year Duke's team has more white players, who are not athletic, but pure shooters like JJ Reddick, who i dont think has played very much in the nba. they look sloppy on defense and always settle for the outside shot, paulus is overrated, sheyer's a good shooter, but u ned to base your team of an all -round player. Maybe they recruit more white players is because Duke is a 95% white school, and there might be wealthy alumni, or administration who might hold racial views.

LET ME SAY THIS AGIN, IM NOT SAYING THAT WHITE PEOPLE CANT PLAY BBALL, THEY CAN, BUT look at duke's white players who have gone to the nba, reddick, laettner, battier, none of them had any impact in the league

and another thing international play is different from regular nba play, because those teams have more chemistry because they've been playing to gether longer and are more experienced.

and if they had a good defense their leads wouldnt have slipped in the UNC,UVA, and VTech games.

They try to get players that will best fit their system. Duke's system doesn't call for super athletic players... Redick owned while he was at Duke because he was a great shooter who fit the system well. The black players typically, while super athletic, are not always fitting into the Duke system very well... Paulus is overrated. The base of Duke is their freshmen - Henderson, Scheyer, they are good. Henderson is an uber-athlete. McRoberts is awesome as well. Redick is starting to get minutes, by the way... If he had played enough games, he would be in the 3-PT shootout because he is shooting really well this year. I don't think your theory is correct as much as Duke plays a system that doesn't want athletes, they want shooters (which most of their players, even McRoberts, are pretty good at)...

Just a side note, how can you say they are sloppy on defense!?! They have the number 1 defense in the ACC!

i would say true, but have u looked at the female roster on the duke basketball team and in the past 10-15 years whut college basketball program has been the most prestigious, thats right duke. Also, the majority of the black players they do try to get either turns them down(oden, lawson) or in the past hops to the nba(bryant, livingston)or just dont have the educational requirements. Also duke does have some good black players they have recruited and have had succesful careers in the nba(brand, hill, maggete, boozer, and both williams)

Dude, I'd like to know where you get your info from. Duke University is no where near 95% white! Its closer to 60%.

Believe it or not, there are alot of white players who can ball out there, and K just does more recruiting in locations other than inner cities and looks at the McDonald's All Americans to fill his ranks for players. I doubt if race has very much at all to do with it.

I have noticed the same thing and have followed Duke Basketball for about 25 years. Remember Danny Ferry? About 85% of Duke students are from out of state (huge out-of-state tuition). Most of those students are from wealthy families. Most of those wealthy families are white; they have sent their kids to top-notch prep schools and have the academic background required. I wish they would also recruit in poor communities but oftentimes SAT scores are not so high and academic curricula/instruction in rural areas sometimes leave a lot to be desired.

Don't take this as an insult (because it's not) but who said you needed to be black to play basketball? Who came in 1st and 2nd place in the International Team Play? Couldn't swapping white and black ethnicities in a post like this be used for almost any other school? Duke brings in players because of skill not race. Schools bring in players from skills not race. An ethnicity being better than the other in athletics is not true. Their is no superior race.

Not being racist at all, but Duke is a very good school, like one of the top academic schools in the country and you have to be smart and athletic to get in there. There are a lot more smart white basketball players, coming out of high school than african american ones. No offense, but a lot of african american basketball players, basketball is all they got. That's why before when kids could go straight from high school to the NBA, there were never any white kids going straight to the pros.

Duke mainly goes after white basketball players because there educational standards are higher than most schools...which i'm not saying that black people arent smart but generally white athletes do better in school as well...i believe duke also tries to get white athletes because they tend to not get in as much off court trouble

I dont think they do that on purpose I think they look and select the best players. Shelden Williams wasn't white, Grant hill wasn't white, Elton Brand wasn't white. They try to select the best players no matter what color skin they have.

two good reasons-
1.) coach k is white
2.) after what happened to duke lacrosse, i think duke became racial and let NC get all the black guys

duke is a private school and i've heard rumours about their racial preference in admissions

don't know how true that is but as a private university, they can admit whomever they want as long as enough minorities are allowed
