They must be because they keep making continuations of old movies like Cinderella and Mulan. Sleeping Beauty is up next.

I don't really know that Sleeping Beauty is next, I was just throwing out the first Disney movie I could come up with.

No, Disney isn't running out of ideas. In fact, they're being extremely smart. They only do sequels for the movies that do well. Cinderella is a classic Disney movie and is easily one of the most popular Disney characters. The children LOVE sequels. I mean, a kid can only watch a movie so many times before they get bored with it, but these kids still love the characters, so Disney has the common sense to just make new movies with same, loved-by-all characters.

Also, Disney isn't just creating sequels. They've been releasing plenty of other movies. For example, the most recent, Bridge to Terabithia.

By the way, Sleeping Beauty isn't the next classic Disney movie to come out with a sequel, Toy Story is. Toy Story 3 should be released by 2009. There's other movies the Company has in the making, too - "American Dog" and "Bedtime Stories" are a couple I can think of.

Disney is in a corporate pinch ... they're buying out Pixar (Cars, Toy Story) primarily since Pixar doesn't have it's feature sing and dance ... when these companies merge, there are plans on using technology from Steve Jobs (Micro Soft & Pixar) to mix with traditional Disney fairy tails.

Pretty much. They have one more 2-D animated film coming out in a few years (2009?), which is Rapunzel, and then I think they've announced they won't be making anymore (at least not originals). It looks horrible too. The art for it is repulsive and just makes me think of child molesters. Walt Disney is surely turning over in his grave.

Absolutely not.

These "sequels" are usually direct-to-video affairs. They are a product aimed at capturing the fastest-growing segment of the retail video market--childrens' movies.

Children, as you should know if you have any, love familiar characters and stories. Since Disney has a whole stable full of name-brand kid-friendly characters, it only makes sense to offer 'new" stories with those familiar faces.

Yes infact we are. I know it sounds lame but we no longer have any more ideas, but one, sell all the original really good movies.

Yeah, it's like they're killing a part of my childhood. Leave the classics alone!

I know. They really should avoid making sequels to stories that were only one book.
