If guns were banned tommorow good people would obey that law right? What do you think the criminals are going to do? They will get a gun anyways! That would just make good people defenseless.
The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependant completely upon the moral stature of it's user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, because a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized.

I love the answer that bullets kill people. I'm a little middle of the road on gun control. On one hand I own a licensed gun and I took a gun safety class.
On the other hand, I think there are too many unlicensed guns with people who don't know how to use them.
I don't like that people can go to a gun show or a pawn shop after being released from prison or a mental institution and pick up a gun without even having their driver's license or identification checked at all. That's twisted.
I've owned guns since I was 8 years old and no one has ever been shot with a gun I owned. I went plinking with my grandpa and brothers when I was 8 and my grandpa taught all of us gun safety. Guns aren't bad...people who use them are.
In today's society, should we make it a little difficult to get bullets? I dunno. Might help but I dunno. I'm against too many rules.
In away, we already have "bullet control"...its almost impossible for people to buy steel bullets which penetrate body armor. I don't know of anyone who carrys them. Bullet Control? I dunno but it would be better than gun control.

Interesting bunch of answers you've generated!! I agree with the majority, but none addressed gun control. So...... gun control is OK, but gun prohibition - like the U.K. - is not OK. The reason is that only the law-abiding citizen will obey the law - as he obeys all laws - but the criminal will not. He will get a gun somehow, somewhere, if he wants one. The result will be that the only civilians that will have guns will be bank robbers. Not a good way to run a country!! (Full disclosure: NRA member since 1971.)

A gun cannot shoot without a person operating it. I am for Americans, being able to have guns for protection and sport.
But, the trouble in my opinions is that most guns used in crimes
are not own by registered, permit holding citizens. I don't think a civilian should be allowed to own a military firearm.(Ex: AK-47, M-16's,etc.) The only people who need those guns are police officers and the military.

People with access to guns kill people. Take the guns away, less access to guns....then less people would be able to kill people with guns. Simple answer right there. At least I think it was. Oh, why couldn't the founding fathers have been more specific on the second amendment?

I have owned a gun since I was 9 years old and it has never killed or wounded a people. Of course I haven't killed or wounded anybody either so I would guess I am no expert, however I think it takes a person to squeeze the trigger.

The problem is the pansy arsed judges that let folks go that committed a crime with a gun
We should follow the UK rule, commit a crime with a gun, go to jail for life. The UK did it to a 5 YO and a 7 yo

people kill people, because whos the one pulling the trigger? the gun is just doing the work if it wasnt for the person pulling the trigger then the person wouldnt be killed in the first place, its not like their are guns running around the streets without being held in the possesion of a person.

The day you see a gun kill a person without another person using it is the day I will support gun control.
Why should it be illegal for home owners to shoot a burglar, intruder or thief? Why should the crook be allowed to sue the homeowner if they shoot them while the crook is breaking into their house?
Why do YOU think guns are the problem? Guns are NOT the problem, poor mental health of the user, is.
