Say you have these 3 guys and they are taking these 3 girls to Homecoming but the want to do something really nice to suprise them, something that takes actual planning. What should I have them do? I really am stuck...lol. Please need suggestions.

When I'm stuck I look to my characters - am I trying to force them to do something they wouldn't really do?

So, look at these three guys - would they really want to do something nice to surprise them? All three of them? And even if they do, would they plan it together? Guys tend to come up with romantic ideas alone - not something they sit around and discuss until they're at a point where they need help from someone else.

Take each one of the guys on their own. Is one a jock? Would he try and get his teammates to carry his date in on their shoulders or on a litter(def. below, FYI)? Is one an artist? Maybe he'd take her up on the school roof to look down on a beautiful chalk drawing he'd done in the parking lot. Is one into science? Try the whole school roof thing again, but have a telescope set up so he can show her a star he had named after her.

Whatever you do, just keep in mind that forcing characters will make them feel fake and you definitely don't want to do that. They'll let you know where to go if you let them!

Okay, think about the setting. Are there billboards in the town?
How about a bakery he takes her to and the baker has spelled out the words in a cake? A Taxi Cab that picks them up with "Amanda, will you go to Homecoming with me?" on the top? There's always the JUMBOTRON at a sports event, or an ad in the paper.

How about a dozen roses with a message on each petal?
A phone call from a celebrity, singing telegram

What if the girl has a dentist appointment and the guy makes a deal with the receptionist to get him in the chair next to her and ask her unexpectedly

What if the girl is at the mall and he asks her over the intercom?
"Sharon, if you would accept Mike as your homecoming date, would you please meet him at the customer service desk?"

What if another charactor in the story used their talents to help with an intricate invitation?

Hope to help start up you engines. No more writers block!

Why not have them hire a horse and wagon - the type with a roof on top plus a special horseman, perhaps one who sings - a la the gondolas in Venice?

Or

What about they arrange fireworks to honour the evening?

or

What about if they arrange a mystery evening. Picking them up early and taking them on a nostalgia ride to the sites where each of the girls were born, their early schools, their early homes, the homes of their grandparents, etc.

and so on.
