I moved from NYC area to Miami area in the 1960s. Not nearly so crowded back then and store window signs said "se hable espanol" instead of "we speak English." Anyway, there are a heck of a lot of people who feel the same way as you do. They are known as "halfbacks." No not football players, just people who move from the northeast to Fla., don't like it, (and don't want to go through another NE winter, so they...) and move half way back to North Carolina, Southern Va. area.

I moved from NJ (near Manhattan) to Tampa about 9 years ago. I felt at the time that Tampa was missing a lot culturally, with the quality of restaurants and shopping. Also the average educational level is less both because of the poorer quality of the schools and because there are fewer people down here who finished college. All that has improved a lot in the past few years, and I am much happier to be here. I still do miss friends and the activities I enjoyed up north, but I don't miss the winters. I make it a point to visit up there about four times a year.

I moved from Baltimore to Tampa Bay. And It's been the best 4 months so far. I am so glad I moved down here. I don't why it didn't work out for you. I got the beach nearby, more sunny days, more warm weather. I don't think I would leave Florida. My move was the best part of my young adult life.

not me but my sister moved from western new york to bradenton in may 2002 and moved back to new york in may 2005...she hated it....the main reason was the school system for her kids...it was cheaper then ny since there is no state tax and she did make more money there but the crappy education system did her in..same thing as you,she didn't like it as much as she thought she would,it was nice to visit but different living there
