It is a personal choice. If it makes them happy then it's a good short term solution, but in the long term it won't bring them satisfaction because they will be living for other people. It definately stems from insecurity and the idea that other people are watching them, yet they don't even know that they exist.
Maybe it has to do with the way they were raised. For example parents that rewarded the kid for doing things the parent wanted them to do instead of letting them satisfy their own needs. In this way the kid developed the idea that if parents are happy so am I and then grow up and portray it in their own surroundings. Also, when the kid told the truth and got punished it created an idea that telling a lie will make them loved etc.

Fakeness is how life goes. You can live life the way you want and get shunned if you'd like. I'm not really serious about getting shunned but expectations are everything in this world. Like honestly.

Tell them your friend Mary is a great example. I think I'm a girl.
people are calling me gay. I'm not gay. They also tell me I'm wasting my money if I want a sex change or not to do it. However I never felt a more deep and profound love that I hae found when this came into being one night. I knew it was special. Anything contrary to what I want will break my heart.

I tried the fakeness a long time ago. I have since learned that people are not going to like me, but plenty will, so I be myself...prolly piss a lot of people off, but have a lot of fun too. The people that like to be around me, enjoy my uniqueness!

I hate fakers. My cousin was/is a faker. When we were in high school she was always smiling this fake smile and acting like she loved everybody, but I was the only one who knew the real her. She told me everything, about how she really felt. She even flat out told me and our other cousin that if we weren't related that she wouldn't be friends w/ us. And everyone at school always said how sweet she was and crap like that. Blech!! She was also full of s**t!!

i think it stems from insecurity. if you're not confident in your own style or taste in music, you will gravitate towards what other people do. it's easier to fit in with a group if you look or act like them. by being like other people, and losing your own identity, you can blend right in. i say bah! be yourself and you'll find some really genuine friends that appreciate that you are real.
