How does it amplify the sound?

By rubbing it's fore wings together. These are the small wings towards the head area. Usually they do their "trilling" or chirping at nite. Sound carries alot more during a windless evening, so the chirping seems to be very loud. It's not really that loud. It's just the fact that you are getting closer to them and it amplifies to the max.

With its legs. The fibers on the legs interact like a small violin and the reverberation sets up a harmonic disturbance.
