The Rangers play AWESOME hockey...if you like to LOSE. Hey RANGERS FANS, when's the last time the RANGERS won a Stanley Cup? 1994!! Clap clap clap clap clap
New Jersey Devils: 1995, 2000, 2003
So you mean to tell me, the Devils have won more championships in their 25 years...than the Rangers in their, what, 60 year history? HAHAHAHAHAHA
I'd rather play "boring" hockey and WIN than play so-called "exciting" hockey and LOSE.
Edit: Oh, and Bob. WHO CARES ABOUT THE ALL STAR GAME? It certainly doesn't win you a Stanley Cup Championship!

Actually i have to disagree I love watching a great defensive game followed by an amazing goaltender. If you recall seeing you guys seem you're Ranger fans the Devils beat the Rangers in a shoot out yes it was good but the devils had no where as near as many shots as the Rangers did the other day. The matter of the fact is points and Devils are 2nd in the Eastern Confrence. I play as well, I am the goalie on my team. I thought it was extremely intense to watch the Devils having to kill a 4-3 powerplay in the overtime. I am a huge NJ Devils fan but i don't always base my answers on the Devils. Defense works for the devils.

Many hockey fans believe the New Jersey Devils are boring for a handful of reasons. They are in no particular order:
1. They play (or have played) a variation of the neutral-zone trap (here is a short description: The most recognizable implementation of the trap sees the defense stationing four of their players in the neutral zone and one forechecker in the offensive zone. As the offensive team starts to move up the ice, the forechecker (generally the center) will cut off passing lanes to other offensive players by staying in the middle of the ice, forcing the puck carrier to either sideboard. The defensive wingers—typically placed on or near the red line—will be positioned by the boards to challenge the puck carrier, prevent passing, or even keep opponents from moving through. The two defensemen who are positioned on or near the blue lines are the last defense should the play move past the wingers and the center). The trap is a defensive tactic used by teams to slow down more talented opponents. The Devils former head coach, Jacques Lemaire, implimented this defensive scheme in 1994. One year later, the Devils would go on to win the Stanley Cup over Detroit, and in turn a slew of copycats followed. The Florida Panthers of 1996 and the Anaheim Mighty Ducks of 2003 are perfect examples of these copycats who employed the system and butressed it upon key clutch perfromances and stellar goaltending. In turn, the copycats have taken the speed and skill out of hockey-it's very foundations-and turned it into a farce. The Devils are still guilty of the trap to this very day, despite playing in a so-called more wide open league.
2. Outside of Martin Broduer, there isn't a truly recognizable "household" name on the Devils. While the likes of Brian Gionta, Scott Gomez, Brian Rafalski, and Patick Elias are solid players, none has that name value that sells their talents or the Devils outside of Broduer. It also helps that Broduer is a future Hall Of Famer, but when the most known name on a team is a goalie, there are some problems.
3. In support of #2, the Devils brass doesn't allow individual marketing for the sake of team. This has hurt their chances of being a viable ticket.
4. When was the last time the Devils had a truly exciting offensive player? Not going to happen with the trap.
5. Until the Devils become a viable national draw ("sexy" names, up tempo play, moving into their new arena next season), they will continue to be viewed as "boring".
One more thing: I am a life-long Pittsburgh Penguins fan (I've been there since the days of Dan Frawley, Craig Simpson, Roberto Romano, Bob Errey, and of course, young Mario), and I have constantly seen the likes of Lemieux, Jagr, Kovalev, Straka, Stevens, Nedved, and others getting hooked, held, and mauled by the Devils' trappers.

The Devils were kind enough to bring the NHL the mind-numbing 'trap' back in '95. We've all suffered the consequence since...
Do the Devils have talented players that display great restraint and discipline in playing within that putrid system? Yes, but the only way you'll catch me at a Devils game is if I've run out of Nyquil and need a good nap.

BORING HOW can you call Stevens laying out poor ol Lindros boring? How can you call CLaude scoring short handed goals against Hextall boring.. Just because they weren't "SCORING" goals.. doesn't mean they weren't exciting. When they stormed back to beat Philly after being down 3-1.. after they Destroyed the Detroit Red Wings in FOUR games watching the crash line maul and destroy every player who dared enter their path boring.. then HELL YEAH I LOVE BORING! IF you call boring winning 3 stanley cups in nine years BORING THAN yeah.. I love boring.
NO the Devils DON'T have a Mario WHO by the way was THE biggest crybaby in the leauge.. also the biggest GOON.. WHat they do have are a corps of tenacious.. hard hitting.. no nonsense seek and destroy winners you will ever see.
You guys may not have heard of Daneyko, Claude Lemieux, John MaClean, Kasatonov, Peter Stastny, Stephane Richer,
Bill Guerin, Bobby Holik, Scott Niedermayer, Mike Peluso,
Sergei Brylin, Tom Chorske, Bruce Driver, Shawn Chambers,

i disagree that there boring. i took my girlfriend to a game who has never watched a hockey game in her life and she had a great time.....said it wasnt boring to watch. Just like football, soccer,or really any other sport there are devensive teams and offensive teams. Devils just happen to be a defensive team. The trap works, and there winning games so why stop? As a Devils fan i will be the first to say a team like buffalo is def more exciting cause there an offensive, there out to score goals. Devils are out to shut down a teams offense, get them frustrated, then catch them making a mistake and score. Its strategy, every team has got one.

Devils hockey is not boring. Ther crushing checks are pretty fun to watch (remember kariya, lindros, and thornton, them alone by stevens). They also have some great scorers who just play defensively, like elias, gomez, and gionta. They have some aspiring rookies such as Parise, Oduya, and Zajac, and they have won 3 stanley cups in 25 years.
You want to know whats boring? seeing your team lose night after night after night. this is also known as the rangers streak. I mean seriously guys, 4 cups in what, 75 years?
get a life and get over it. Devils hockey isnt boring.
