i think he will stay but the bears should get a great leader like jeff garcia but i think Rex will stay this year because he signed a contract with the bears in 2003 for 5 years but anyways you never know they could bench him if he plays poorly in the regular season. the superbowl was the thing that screwed him up but his season stats were decent not that bad.

2006 Rankings
Ranks 12th in Total Passing Yards: 3197
Ranks 7th in Total Passing Touchdowns: 23
Ranks 10th in Total Passing Attempts: 480
Ranks 17th in Total Pass Completions: 262

Of course he should stay!!! I'm not saying he is going to be a all pro QB it's still to early to tell. But what are we going to do use all the retreads in the NFL some do have success but many don't Jeff Garcia is going to be 37 that's not good at all. Unfortunately here in Chicago we never seen a quarterback develop we have this mentality to only have a defense and run the ball forget about a passing game. Yes it was a bad performance in the Superbowl but he wasn't alone in that game that failed. Defensely it was absolutely brutal. You cant give up that many yards rushing and passing and expect to win a game. The score was not an indication on how the bears were being dominated.

I never want to see that guy in a Bears uniform again for the rest of my life. The guy is garbage plain and simple.

Let's look at the arguments delusional Rex apologists trot out.

1) It's his first year starting. He deserves a break.

Rex Grossman may be inexperienced but after a certain point it has become an excuse. The guy has been a professional football player since 2003. He's played in the same system under the same coach and the same team mates since 2004. Vince Young and Matt Leinart have demonstrated more poise in the pocket and better decision making in their rookie years than Grossman in his third season.

On top of that, the Bears do NOT have a very large time frame to win a championship. The team is built to win today and needs a dependable leader to run the offense.

2) The guy won 13 games as a starter and brought us to the Superbowl.

The team is so talented, that they won many of those games in SPITE of him. They did this against one of the league's softest schedule. Their opponents had a .430 combined winning percentage. Of them, only four of them were playoff teams.

Grossman clearly contributed early on in the season. But under no circumstances should he take credit for all those wins. After throwing four interceptions and coughing up two fumbles, he deserves absolutely no credit for the Monday night win against Arizona. In a win against Minnesota, he was 6-19 with zero touch downs and three interceptions, giving him a QB rating of 1.3.

Football is truly a team game. A year ago, Kyle Orton, their current third stringer led the team to ten wins. That's because he, like Grossman were supported by a team that sent eight guys to the Pro Bowl including a league defensive MVP in Brian Urlacher.

3) Grossman is young. He'll get better.

Once his weaknesses were exposed on film, Grossman never was the same. Between the October 16th debacle in Arizona and the Superbowl on February 4th, he never stopped chucking the ball up for grabs under pressure. He never became more accurate on deep routes. He never improved his ability to anticipate the pocket collapsing and he never demonstrated a consistent ability to know when to throw the ball away.

4) The media created too much pressure and placed too many expectations on him. The scrutiny was too much for him to handle.

This is by far the absolute worst crap excuse I've ever heard. Many quarterbacks from Eli Manning to Donovan McNabb to Brett Favre (to whom Grossman is often compared) has been dissected and subjected to intense media scrutiny. Eli, for being Peyton Manning's little brother, as well as playing in New York. Donovan McNabbb for his injuries and off field issues with Terell Owens. Brett Favre for his gun slinger mentality. The difference is that all of these guys did what QBs SHOULD do and handled the pressure. Handling pressure is a basic requirement of every single starting quarterback in the NFL and Rex Grossman is no exception.

If the Bears want to win next year, they need to seriously look at other quarterbacks in via free agency, trades and the draft. Damon Huard and Jeff Garcia both played well with their respective teams. Matt Schaub with the Atlanta Falcons has been an excellent back up that will never get out from Michael Vick's shadow. There's always a chance that you can find a quality starter in the draft, even with the 31rst pick. Keep in mind that Drew Brees was a second round pick, Joe Montana was a third round pick and Tom Brady was a sixth rounder. With such possibilities, how can the Bears not even consider improvement in such a maligned, yet important position?

And yes, this is a ridiculously long post on a very old question. I doubt anyone will even read it, but I don't care. It needed to be said.

I dont know if Rex really wants to stay. Nobody in Chicago thinks he is any good. None of his coaches trust him to make the right decision. I think it would be a good move by Rex to become a free agent, sign with the Texans, or the Vikings, or maybe the Bills if they are looking for a new QB.

The rest of the teams that play the Bears are hoping Grossman stays, many would even pay for part of his salary to keep him with the Bears,he is at least 10 points for the opposing team every game he plays

Why not, he DID get the Bears into the playoffs didn't he?

Also. it was his first year as a starter, give him another year and have him learn from his mistakes. If he sucks in the next season then get rid of him.

remember, Kyle Orton got them into the playoffs two years ago, where then Rex jumped in and lost it for the Bears. So if Rex needs to be replaced, Kyle Orton is perfect.

yes but the BEARS should also, draft another quarterback. look at how good Drew Brees started playing, once the CHARGERS drafted Phillip Rivers. some guys just need a little more motivation.
