add 2 and -7, which equals -5, then add 5 to -9, which gives you the answer for x -4. Then if you want to check it, just put -4 in for x. Hope its right! Peace!

You want to isolate the variable, which means getting it all by itself on one side of the '=' sign. To do this, you need to move the 2 and -7 to the same side as the -9. To move 2, you actually have to SUBTRACT 2 from both sides. to move the -7, you need to ADD 7 to both sides. Doing this will eliminate the numbers from the one side, leaving the 'X' by itself. If you did your addition/subtraction correctly, you will find that X = -4

x = -4
You want to isolate the x, its much easier, so first you can add up all the constant numbers on the left side of the equation, after that u get~
-5 + x = -9
add +5 to both sides to have x on the left side.
x = -9 + 5 = -4 < Like this~ and when u put x on both sides, your answer is -4!
