My dad complains that his fingers feel "numb and prickly". This usually happens when he wakes up in the morning. And its been going on for quite some time already. He is also on medication for high blood pressure. He is 57 yrs old. What is wrong with him?

It sounds like your dad has poor circulation. He should see a doctor about this because I believe it will only get worse.

I've had carpel tunnel syndrome and it will cause your fingers to go numb, especially the ones next to the thumb. there is also a little numbness or tingling near the elbow. had it operated on and after a week or so i was back to normal, just a little sore for about a couple of weeks.

Tell Dad to try sleeping with his head at a different angle. Ex.: If he uses a large pillow try sleeping on a smaller one. If he falls asleep in a chair or sitting up in bed, tell him to make sure to lie down. It may be a problem with a pinched nerve in his neck. I have this and it's technically called cervical radiculopathy, it bothers me most if I fall asleep reading and my neck is in a bad position. Sometimes after being in the car too long it acts up. Has he ever mentioned this to his physician, if not he should.

I get that in the winter when its cold. My doctor told me it called
Reynauds Disease I think I spelled it correctly. Of course I can't say thats what your dad has, but, you can look it up and compare symptoms.

Sounds like poor circulation. Get him to the doctor soon. If he has poor circulation in his hands he could have it in his heart and brain.
