Is it 'nee-sha'? Or 'nee-chee'? 'Neesh'? 'Nee-chay'? How would he have pronounced his own name?

Okay, since everybody's giving a different answer, let's try this. How would a German pronounce Nietzsche?

So it's sort of an either/or situation?... literally speaking. I mean I pronounce 'either' like 'eye-ther' but some of my friends say 'ee-ther'.

When I started reading Thus Spoke Zarathrustra yesterday, I imagined it like 'nee-sha'.

Neet-cha is the correct german pronunciation.
The second syllable is spoken rather short, however, stress is on the first one.

Neet-chee in English and Neet-cha in German. Because he was German (or Austrian?), he would have pronounced it "Neet-cha."
