If there are 6 people going to dinner and one of them isn't sure if he'll be able to make it, Shall we book a table for 5 or 6 people?

We're going at 8 and the 6th person said he might join us at 9 but he's not sure . When we get to the restaurant should we save a chair for him?

The thing is,It's a very posh expensive restaurant and it's very busy on weekends. I'm not sure if that would look good.

definately make it for 6. If you make it for 5 and they give you a table for 5, where will the 6th one sit? If you get a table for 6 for 5 people, you have one empty space. So what?

Definitely 6. Tables usually don't come in 5 tops anyway. So even if you booked a table for 5, you'd still be at a table that seated six. Just say 6.

make it for 6. That way you will have plently of space. If on the day of the event the person tells you he/she can't make it. Then call up the restaurant and let them know you will only be having 5 people.

Make it for 6, and then you'll continuously call back in the route of the reserved time to regulate. that's extra effective to plot for one extra man or woman than to not have sufficient seats if he shows up!

Always consider the other person, even if you're not sure if they are going to make an appearance. It's better to have an extra seat, than to be short a seat, then when they arrive they can order their dinner if they so choose.

I'd go with six. Nothing worse than trying to get an extra person a seat at an elegant restaurant.

book the table for the original amount as you can always say the other person had an last minute emergency and did not show up,,it should not make a difference anyway

Make the resy for 6 People, if the 6th can't make the restuarant will understand. if s\he arrives late you can usually just pull up another chair.
