In that size tank you are best to stick with the Betta. A Pleco will get very big. If you do some research, you will find that when a tank is too small for a fish, the fish will remain small, BUT the internal organs continue to grow. The fish will not live very long and will die a painful death because of that.
Also, most "algae eater" fish do not actually eat algae. A snail will eat some algae, but remember they are small and don't eat much. If you are getting it only for the purpose of cleaning the tank you would be much better off to clean the tank yourself.
Good Luck

The tank is not big enough. Plus, the pleco is in need of a heater, your Betta is not.
Plecos, the average type, will grow to as much as 10" or even a foot. Don't try to stunt it with such a small tank.
If your Betta tank is full of "plant life" try moving it out of the light/sun.
Sounds as if there might be a nitrate problem if you've got lots of algae. Clean it more often.

No, you cannot. If you had a larger tank, yes.
A one gallon is not suitable for anything other than a betta alone.
You can consider a shrimp (or two) or a snail (only one) in a two and a half gallon.
Bettas can live in decently small amounts of water because they do not give out much waste (unlike goldfish) most aquatic animals are not the same. Shrimp ride the middle because they tend to help more than they harm.
Do keep in mind that your betta may not want to live with anything else, and that harmony is not guaranteed no matter what you add with in (in no matter what size tank.)

You can put a pleco and Betta together in a tank..You can put a Betta in a tank with other fish..You just can't put a male and female together..however, your tank is really to small to do this..I agree, a snail would probably be your best bet..If your water is not right, as in PH, Nitrates, Nitrites and such..Your snail will stay dormant..If your water is okay..he will do a great job at cleaning the algae..Just be careful if you get two..Cause they make lots of babies..fast too..

The betta really needs to be in a bigger tank, 1 gallon is too small. If the pleco is bigger than the betta you might get away with it but watch them very closely and be ready to get the pleco out quick if you need to. Keep them together a minimum time possible.
Having just reread the question..if you mean put them together on a permanant basis, then the answer is a definite no. The tank is waaaay to small for that. Plecos can get big, I have several but they are in a 5ft tank!

No, not in that tiny tank. Even a small pleco would overload the amount of ammonia in the tank. You really should be doing 100% water changes weekly so there should be no phosphates built up in the water. No phosphates= no algae.

NO NO NO a plecostamous can get 18 inches long and need a minimum of 20 gallons until he gets bigger. Get either an otocinclus or a snail. A snail would probably be the safest cleanest bet.

yes you can. the plec will only grow to fit the tank the are very docile and quiet. have fun with your fish, plecs have incredible personalities. they like cucumber too!
dont listen to them! bettas are quiet. you must know your fish yourself! the only thing male battas are aggressive to is each other! the plec will only grow to fit your tank. try a common plec
