if you would have asked this question a year ago i'd have said no, but i would have been wrong. i have since met a person who just cannot get along with anyone as far as i can tell. i have never heard one person say a nice thing about him. at first i tried to be nice, thinking maybe he was just misunderstood, but again, i was wrong. this man is just plain miserable. i guess some people really are that way, i don't know why, but figure it must be some weird survival instinct in them.

not trying to get all religious on you, but i'm jewish and during our holiday services we actually say a prayer for the members of our community that are without friends because they deserve to be, you know, the ones who can't say anything without hurting feelings or picking fights.
you can only do so much, if the other person is not willing to put in as much effort as you are, you are depriving other people from the time they could be spending with you if you weren't wasting time on someone who is too selfish to do their part in a relationship.

Oh, yes I do believe that. I've dealt with many people like that. I think the reason is because it actually makes them happy to cause turmoil and make others miserable. It's like a game to them. People like that are called "irritants". Best to deal with them as little as possible. This may be hard to accomplish if you have to work with them.

Yes. take my mom's side of the family. I am always nice to them and sometimes I even go out of my way to do things for them but they still stick their noises up at my husband and myself. And now they wonder why they don't hear from us as much as they use to.

Some people just aren't happy unless they make everyone around them miserable.
