Okay so I have that Marshall MG50 whatever it is (the 50 watt amp) and my mom thinks I'm hurting my back when I carry it so she said she'd give me a new smaller one for band practices...hey, it's a new amp, so I won't argue. But I don't know which one to get. It has to be a 30 watt or smaller and be light weight kinda sorta. I was looking into the Vox Valvetronix AD30VT 30w, but I'm not sure if the difference in weight between it and my Marshall are that great....any thoughts?

There is very little difference in weight between the Marshall and Vox models you mentioned. Both are fairly small, but not toys, if you know what I mean. If you already have the MG50, just stick with it and don't worry about the weight, it's not all hat heavy after all.

I carried around a Fender Twin as well as a Bassman for years, bit were VERY heavy. Once I got my hands on my first AC30 about 10 years ago, I have only played them and now Have owned 3 along with an AC15. The AC30's still weigh in at around 70lbs for a 30 watt amp and the AC15 is about 45lbs. I use the AC15 for smaller rooms and when I am sitting in with other bands. They are both fantastic amps.

When I was playing guitar in the late 70s/early 80s, the portable amp of choice was the Pignose - it was about 8" x 11," cost $100 new and was LOUD.

Looks like they've come down in price to $75. You could probably score a used one on Craigslist for $50.
