Low oil is quite possible.
For the light to flicker and not always on indicates that your oil pump is OK and the oil pressure sensor is probably OK too.

I think you should check the brake fluid.

One of the best places to go for help is the parts store. You can get a clerk who won't be hitting on you and won't be trying to scam you into a $100 service charge. They will show you how to check all the fluid levels and sell the appropriate product. You can expect to get away with a total charge that is less than $3.

Advance auto and O'riely are my favorites. Autozone is good too.

If all your fluid levels are OK, then swap out the oil pressure sending unit. $30.

Likely worn lower end bearings. To be on the safe side, re-check actual oil pressure with a mechanical gauge that is screwed into the block or oil filter housing instead of original pressure sensor. If pressure is OK - replace the sensor, otherwise - the engine will need to be rebuilt soon.

I, too once had this same problem, I discovered that my "idle" was set too low, so at braking the engine would turn over too slow and the oil light would flicker. and at acceleration it would turn off. so I reset the idle and no more problems for me. Try it , Sometimes the most simple of things does the job Good luck

list of items to check in order of commonality.
1: oil level low
if its been more than 5000 miles since last oil and filter change get oil and filter change. if not check add oil as needed.
2: oil too thin.
get oil and filter change with correct oil for weather conditions in your area.
3: oil pressure sending unit
remove oil pressure sending unit and test oil pressure with a mechanical Gage.
4: oil pump
check that oil pump drive is functioning correctly. disassemble oil pump and check for internal problems if no problems here most likely engine bearing failure.
5: internal bearings in engine.

You either have low oil pressure, (not good) or a bad oil press sender switch, (not as bad)
